The
largest annual art exhibition of its kind in the region, Art in the Park has
been named one of the Top 100 festivals in Ontario for the third consecutive
year. It’s one of just a few “juried” art shows at which standards of quality
and acceptance is at a consistently high level. Artists and artisans from
across Ontario, Quebec and beyond will once again display and sell their
creative handiwork in enticing booths and displays arranged around the
Willistead Park perimeter.
Thousands of
visitors are expected to visit the park during this eagerly-anticipated two-day
public art extravaganza. A real family
affair, Art in the Park offers a whole lot more than just beautiful paintings
and other irresistible art objects. Over the years show organizers have
expanded and enhanced the show’s content to appeal to all ages and interests.
Children, for instance, will again have their very own fun play area in the
ever-popular AIP Kids Zone. This year
children and parents will find even more interactive activities for kids of all
ages to enjoy, including the Children’s Art Contest – with prizes for the
winners from each age group. Get your
Paul Murray Raffle tickets for $5 each for 2 chances to win the renowned
“Lil Miss” print in the Marquis Tent.
Only 1,000 tickets printed.
Free tours of Willistead
Manor
While at Art in
the Park, be sure to take advantage of the FREE tours of the incredible
Willistead Manor. During your tour, stop
and visit “Events in the Manor” guests consisting of local Art groups. And there have been some significant enhancements in the park itself thanks to the City of Windsor, which will make it easier for visitors to make their way around the spacious grounds. A brand-new asphalt-paved perimeter walkway will make it much easier for those in wheelchairs, and infants and toddlers in strollers, to leisurely tour the Art in the Park exhibits.
Beer supplied by Walkerville’s own Walkerville Brewery, wine options from Erie Shores Vineyards, Hiram Walker & Sons, and Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards, as well as AIP specialty cocktails from Corby Distillery, will again be available in the Spirit Tent and at locations around the park-allowing you to grab a cool drink and tour the inspiring exhibitors throughout the park. Upscale delicious food services will also be available in the Spirit Tent from the following local restaurants: Spagos, The Gourmet Emporium, Ming Wah, Thai Palace, Stir Crazy Grille, and new this year Crepe Delicious. There will be music throughout the park all day Saturday and Sunday. Strolling musicians will perform wherever they happen to stop and popular local musicians and groups will provide live entertainment at the Spirit Tent all day Saturday, culminating with a 9 p.m. performance by British Beat 66, and again on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918), Art in the Park 2014 is the 36th annual iteration of this hugely popular outdoor art exhibition and sale. All proceeds from the event go toward supporting special needs children, youth and adults as well as to the ongoing restoration and preservation of Windsor’s architectural jewel, Willistead Manor. To date, Art in the Park has raised well over $1.3 million for the Willistead restoration fund alone.
