Windsor Easter Seals Paper Eggs Campaign Kicks off until April 20, 2014

Easter Seals Ontario launched the 2014 Easter Seals Paper Eggs Campaign today with retailers throughout Windsor-Essex. This fundraising initiative helps support children with physical disabilities by selling Paper Eggs for $2 each. The campaign will run from March 28 until April 20, 2014.

Easter Seals is honoured to have the continued support for the 2014 campaign from many local retailers including Booster Juice, Sobey’s, TSC, The Bargain! Shop and Freshco. Customers will be invited to purchase a Paper Egg for $2 and write their name or that of a loved one on the paper egg, to be displayed in-store for the duration of the campaign.

“The Easter Seals Paper Eggs Campaign is an easy way to show your support for children with physical disabilities. Every $2 a shopper donates will help a child get the essential equipment they need,” says David Lenz, Senior Development Officer, Easter Seals Ontario. “We’re looking forward to another successful year of the Paper Egg Campaign and wish to thank participating retailers for their support.”

Since 2000, the Paper Egg Campaign for Easter Seals Kids has raised over $6.2 million dollars across Ontario and in 2013, more than 1,110 retail stores across Ontario participated in the campaign. Since 1922, Easter Seals Ontario has provided families of children with physical disabilities with financial assistance for expensive mobility equipment and communication devices such as walkers, braces, and wheelchairs, fully accessible Easter Seals camps, and funding for alternative recreational programs. The Brain Injury Association Presents “Sports & Sparkle –The Main Event”

There has been a lot of buzz on the streets of Windsor about who is attending “Sports & Sparkle The Main Event,” a gala style evening with a twist hosted by the Brain Injury Association of Windsor/Essex County (BIAWE) on March 29 at the Caboto Club.

“We have been getting calls and emails about which sports and sparkle celebrities are attending,” says Melanie Gardin, President of the association. “I can tell you that hockey’s favourite father, professional football players, and Miss Canada 2012 are just a few of the special guests who will be signing autographs and posing for photos at the event.”

Dedicated volunteers have been planning this one of a kind occasion since early 2013 and the anticipation is building as the event draws near. Superbowl Champ Luke Wilson was recently added to the celebrity list.

“We are optimistic that “Sports & Sparkle The Main Event” will become our largest fundraising event,”  says Gardin. “Funds raised will support local programs and services for families and children, and $10 from each ticket sold will support the BIAWE program, Helmets on Kids. We hope to create more awareness about concussions and educate the public about who to call when they need help with a brain injury diagnosis and treatment.”

Brain Injury is the leading killer and disabler of people under the age of 45 and is usually predictable and preventable, adds Laura Kay, Executive Director for BIAWE. “The Brain Injury Association of Windsor & Essex County is committed to enhancing the lives of residents of Windsor and Essex County affected by acquired brain injury through education, awareness and support.

Sports & Sparkle The Main Event” takes place at the Caboto Club with a meal to remember, sports demonstrations and a silent auction and more! This evening has all the makings of a gala with fine food, entertainment and décor with options on your attire (sports and/or sparkle) and interactive games for prizes.

Picture walking into the venue with cheerleaders cheering, drummers drumming and people dressed in team jerseys and others in semi-formal attire the Pep Rally atmosphere is sure to set the mood. Local band, The Brilliancy, plays after dinner, followed by dancing with DJ Mr. D.

As well, the “Sports & Sparkle” auction will likely be one of the most memorable parts of the evening along with a signed Gordie Howe jersey up for grabs!

The $85 tickets are expected to sell out quickly for this one of a kind event, so be sure to purchase yours early.
