I received this from Amanda Garant, R.V.T. and owner of Amanda's Pet Sitting Services http://amandaspetsitting.vpweb.ca and wanted to pass it on ..
Amanda's Pet Sitting is a 2012 Biz X award nominee and it is her dedication to the industry that earns her this honour..
Read up on what is going on during the week of Oct. 14 to 20 and hopefully you can support her efforts!
In Amanda's words, "Registered Veterinary Technicians play
such an important role in the health and well being of all our furry friends.
They assist veterinarians in surgery rooms, they are the staff behind the
scenes in vet clinics who take care of x-rays and blood work, some work at
medical laboratories, on farms, for the pharmaceutical pet divisions, as
teachers, groomers or, like myself, as a professional pet sitter and dog
walker. We posses skills from hospital management to animal nursing and are the
voice of the animals we help. All RVT's have had to pass a provincial exam and
belong to a professional association called the Ontario Association of
Veterinary Technicians ( OAVT). To keep our status we must complete 'continuing
education' similar to most other medical professions. This year National Vet
Tech Week is from October 14 -20. During this week, RVT's are encouraged to
celebrate by educating the public on the roles we play in the workforce and to
volunteer our time where we can. I decided to do both! I have shed light on the
amazing RVT's out there AND I will be volunteering at the Windsor/Essex County
Humane Society. If you know of any RVT's working hard in your community,
make sure you give them a smile and say thank you for their compassion and
devotion."
