And here’s the back up information . .  .

The click of a mouse and a little luck will be worth $5,000 for a local hospice in a community somewhere in Canada this spring. Bayshore Home Health, Canada’s largest provider of home and community health services, announces its online 2011 Hospice Donation Draw that will see $5,000 donated to a hospice on behalf of the winner.

“The Hospice Donation Draw is open to people in the communities we serve as well as our referral sources such as doctors, hospital staff, social workers, discharge planners, other health care professionals. It’s really for anyone who wants to give back and reconnect with the community,” says Liz Daniel, area director of Bayshore Home Health’s Windsor branch.

People can enter by going to www.bayshore.ca, clicking on the Hospice Donation Draw graphic and typing the password: HOSPICE DRAW. They must complete the entry form by Saturday, April 30, 2011, and then keep their fingers crossed until the winner is announced on Bayshore’s website during the week of May 1.

“We encourage everyone to go online and enter to win an opportunity to help their local hospice,” states Ms Daniel. “Hospices help people at one of the most difficult times of their life, allowing them to pass away with dignity in a comfortable environment and bringing care and compassion to both patients and their families. The Windsor Essex Hospice is an amazing organization that we are very fortunate to have in our community. They are committed to supporting, educating and empowering those people facing life-threatening illness.”

According to the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association only 16 per cent of Canadians who die have access to quality end-of-life care services. Too many Canadians die with suffering that could be addressed in a more effective manner.

Ms Daniel also urges people to participate in this year’s Hike for Hospice Palliative Care that will be held on Sunday, May 1, across Canada in support of local hospice palliative care. Bayshore has been a national sponsor of the event since 2006 and staff from its 50-plus home care branches will be participating in the hike again this year.
