Donate Clothes May 1&2; And Shop 4 A Cause Later That Night!

Shopping. Sips. Sweets. For a cause.

May 2, 2012
Whoever said you couldn’t buy happiness, simply didn’t know where to go shopping!

Get ready for a fabulous, fashionable evening that will make your closet, wallet, and heart happy...

The first ever SOIREE in the CITY event that can be summed up as “shopping, sips & sweets, for a cause” is coming to Windsor on May 2, 2012 from 7pm-11pm on at LOFT Nightclub in downtown Windsor (www.loftwindsor.com). Ages 19+ are welcome.
While all this may be fabulous enough, the star of the show is most definitely the shopping. Local fashionistas are asked to donate their “gently loved” quality clothing, shoes, purses & accessories. For every 5 items donated, they will receive a ticket to redeem toward 1 FREE item. The best part: not only do sales help a great cause everything is priced at just $5!  There is no dress code for this event, but feel free to look fabulous and strut through the door.

Clothing donation drop offs can be made Tuesday May 1 from 10AM-2PM at St. Angela Hall (750 Erie Street East, Windsor) or on May 2 from noon-3PM at LOFT Nightclub (20 Chatham Street East, downtown Windsor.) For those who wish to donate items but can’t make these dates a pick-up service can be arranged by contacting fashionistanation@gmail.com. Items are inspected to meet strict quality standards. Criteria is as follows: gently loved clothing, shoes, purses, & accessories that: have been purchased in the last 2-3 years and are free of rips, holes, stains & missing hardware.  Items must be clean. All sizes & brands are welcome. Guests will also be able to shop from a selection of specially priced dresses & extras from www.fashionistanation.com
The exciting girl’s night out event will benefit The FEARLESS & FABULOUS Project. The project focuses on making memories, & making a difference via positive, personal experiences in the lives of local women battling breast cancer or in remission. In addition to advocating breast health it provides “fabulous” silk headscarves, wraps, hats, wigs, accessories, & feel-good pampering. This includes but is not limited to spa days and professional beauty photo shoots celebrating courage, strength, & hope. The FEARLESS & FABULOUS project was founded by local entrepreneur Amber Gates-Conflitti as a way for her online dress rental & accessories company www.fashionistanation.com (event host) to get involved with a cause close to her heart, in a very direct way.

The Breast Health Center at Windsor Regional Hospital is partnering with the project, as proceeds from this event stay local to help local women.

The SOIREE in the CITY special guest lineup for the evening includes: local DJ sensation Joey Beatz (www.freshbeatzproductions.com), sensuality coach & Passion Party diva Tamilynn Edwards, and professional “speed artist” Dave Santia presenting “The ART of ROCK n ROLL” with his first ever appearance in Canada. Dave is famous for his collectable music & movie legend paintings created on giant 5ft canvases. All paintings are done “live” to corresponding music, and typically completed within just 2-7 minutes.

Guests will have a chance to bid on exclusive artwork at the event. Anticipated work may include icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, & Madonna just to name a few, with proceeds benefiting The FEARLESS & FABULOUS Project.
A specialty martini menu will be offered exclusively for the event, with fashionista inspired themes. Martini cocktails can be purchased for $5 each. Bursting with swanky atmosphere, guests will enjoy a live DJ, decadent dessert buffet, specialty martinis, a silent fashion auction, raffle prizes, giveaways, & some very special guests

“Breast cancer does not define who these woman are. They are all  fearless & fabulous in their own right.  I believe the focus should not just be on the disease itself, but directly on the women so bravely fighting it.”

Sweetheart Diapers & Bump maternity & baby Great Cloth Diaper Change--April 21, 2012

Sweetheart Diapers & More and bump maternity + baby join forces to Host Windsor, Ontario Site of the Second Annual World-Record Setting
“Great Cloth Diaper Change” International Event

Sweetheart Diapers & More http://www.sweetheartdiapers.com and bump maternity + baby http://www.bumpmaternityonline.com are working together to host the Windsor site of an international cloth diaper changing event taking place on Saturday, April 21, 2012, the day before Earth Day and during International Cloth Diaper Awareness Week. In its second year with over 230 sites in 13 countries, The Great Cloth Diaper Change event will attempt to break last year’s Guinness World Record™ of 5,026 cloth diapers changed simultaneously.[1]

"Each year billions of disposable diapers enter landfills where it takes hundreds of years for them to decompose, if ever,” says Heather McNamara, Executive Director of the Real Diaper Association. “Building off the success of last year’s event with 127 locations in five countries, we hope to show the entire world that cloth diapers are a real option for today’s modern families, particularly catching the eye of expecting and new parents who may be seeking more planet-friendly and affordable alternatives to disposable diapers.”

To date, there are more than 25 mom and baby pairs already registered to participate in the Windsor event, which is still several weeks away. We anticipate approximately 100 people in attendance. The event will take place at 12:00pm at Sweetheart Diapers & More, 4782 Wyandotte St. E. In addition to the Great Cloth Diaper Change world-recording setting activity, there will also be snacks and refreshments, family-friendly activities, goodie bags, and free prizes.

For more information or to participate in The Great Cloth Diaper Change in Windsor please contact Margaret from Sweetheart Diapers & More at 519-800-3963 or Lindsay from bump maternity + baby at 519-256-7282. There is also a Facebook page for this event at https://www.facebook.com/GCDCWindsor.

About The Great Cloth Diaper Change: In its second year, The Great Cloth Diaper Change is an international initiative organized with the help of the nonprofit Real Diaper Association designed to show the world that cloth diapers are a real option for today’s families. The brainchild of Judy Aagard of Tiny Tots in California, Aagard says she came up with the idea in an effort to host a family event celebrating Earth Day. The Great Cloth Diaper Change has morphed into an exciting Guinness World Record™ breaking event, and in 2011, more than 5,000 babies were changed simultaneously. For more information visit www.GreatClothDiaperChange.com.

[1] Note: The total number of participants in the 2011 event was 6,363 from 203 sites in 10 countries, but not all qualified for the record due to Guinness’s policy requiring a minimum of 25 babies changed per site in order to qualify.

Earth Hour Eve -- March 31, 2012

Earth Hour Eve at the John Park Homestead

Saturday, March 31st, everyone around the world will be asked to turn off non-essential lights and electric appliances from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, local time.  You can spend Earth Hour sitting around in the dark OR you can come to the John R. Park Homestead's Earth Hour Eve program the day before and get inspired for interesting ways to experience life without electricity.

Visitors will learn the history of lighting at the electricity-free 1850’s farm.  Costumed guides will share some old fashioned tips for energy conservation, as guests participate in electricity-free activities that were popular in pioneer times.

“There won’t be a dull moment in this after dark adventure,” promises Homestead Curator, Janet Cobban. “We'll have the electric lights on in the gift shop and washrooms when you first arrive, then the switch is flipped and all activities will be conducted by candle lantern.  Play old fashioned games, make taffy on snow, do some star gazing, and get inspired for your own Earth Hour celebrations.”

Earth Hour Eve is held Friday March 30, at 7:30pm, and the cost is $15 per person. Pre-registration is required for this after-dark event; register in advance in person, or online at: www.onlineregistrations.ca/jrph.

The Homestead is located at: 915 County Road 50 East, on the lake between Kingsville and Colchester. For more information, phone: 519-738-2029 or email: jrph@erca.org. All event details are also listed on ERCA’s website: www.erca.org.
