The Accounting Department at the WFCU Centre has done the math and reviewed the ticket stubs, and on Tuesday April 17 during the opening performance of Sesame Street Live “Elmo’s Super Heroes”, the millionth patron will enter the doors to the WFCU Centre.
“Since the doors of the WFCU Centre have opened, we have been able to show what an asset the facility has become, bringing in shows to entertain both the City of Windsor and Essex County” says Doug Sweet, General Manager of Arenas and WFCU Centre, City of Windsor. “From shows for children and families, all the way up to classic rock legends, future hockey stars, and world-class gymnasts, you can really grasp the truly multi-function purpose that the WFCU Centre was designed for.”
Since opening doors on December 2, 2008, the WFCU Centre, managed by Global Spectrum, has hosted events including Cirque du Soleil, Elton John, Hedley, Blue Rodeo, high school graduations, Border Wars MMA event, The Wiggles, Disney Live!, monster truck events, the Harlem Globetrotters, and much more. The WFCU Centre is also home to the Windsor Spitfires, and saw the Spits take home two Memorial Cup championships during their first two years in the facility.
“Having the millionth patron enter the doors of the WFCU Centre just three and a half years after opening really shows that the community is proud of the facility, and eager to come to the events within, as well as supporting the Windsor Spitfires” says Jason Toner, General Manager of Events, Global Spectrum. “We’ll continue to try and surprise Windsor residents with new, exciting, and different events right in their own back yard.”
The millionth patron will be honoured with a one-millionth themed prize package including an authentic Windsor Spitfires jersey, two tickets to every event at the WFCU Centre through the end of this year, a million seconds of Windsor Spitfires hockey during the 2012-2013 season, a WFCU (Windsor Family Credit Union) prize pack including a $500 scholarship to assist with your educational expenses, a million words to read from the Windsor Star, a million sips of Pepsi-Cola, and a $100.00 gift certificate from Ovations Food Services to use at WFCU Centre concessions.
