ERCA HOSTS TREE PLANTING & CARE WORKSHOP MARCH 7

The Essex Region Conservation Authority will host a free tree planting and care workshop on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Essex County Civic Centre.

This dynamic workshop will discuss ways in which you can get involved in the reforestation of the region.  “

This workshop will explore different tree planting techniques, tree health, tree physiology, and the best ways to care for your future forests or special shade trees,” explains Paul Giroux, ERCA’s Registered Professional Forester and Certified Arbourist.  “As well, people will learn about the environmental benefits of tree planting.”

The workshop will also identify the many grant opportunities available to landowners who wish to undertake restoration projects on their property.

ERCA is also currently accepting orders for their spring tree planting program.  The cost of seedling trees begins at 69 cents, while prices for large stock trees begin at $12.  A minimum purchase of 100 seedlings or 15 large stock trees is required.  Order forms are available online at www.erca.org.

Although the workshop is free, landowners are asked to pre-register by calling (519) 776-5209 ext. 345 or vkennedy@erca.org.

Deb's Place, in business for over 20 years, has been serving Broaster® chicken for more than a year now. With the Broaster® method of cooking, moisture and natural juices are sealed within the product, preventing the penetration of cooking oil. Foods cooked in a Broaster® are much more tender, juicy and flavourful.

Patrons can eat in or take out chicken on Feb. 20 and every day. Call ahead to order at 519-969-7080.

Deb's Place is located in Yorktown Square at 1387 Grand Marais W. at Dominion Boulevard. Famous for their breakfast special, they also server supper Wednesday to Friday.

Devonshire Mall Celebrates Literacy Day: Jan. 27!

We Know You Love to Curl up with a Good Book
Devonshire Mall Celebrates Literacy Day

Research shows that children have a better chance of becoming fully literate adults if reading is encouraged in the home and this year, Literacy Day will focus especially on young readers in a themed event at Devonshire Mall on Friday, January 27th 2012 at Centre Court.

“Passport to Learning”, this year’s theme, will be hosted by the Windsor-Essex County District School Board, the Windsor-Essex County Catholic School Board, St. Mary’s Family Centre, and the Windsor Public Library as well as volunteers from St. Clair College’s ECE Program.

There will be activities throughout the day including guest readers (in different languages!), give-a-ways, and door prizes. There will also be a raffle with five $10 gift cards.

Reading to children more than once a day has a substantial positive impact on their future academic skills. In addition, research indicates children with early exposure to books are better at performing mathematical tasks. Local Windsorites will not want to miss this fun and educational event.
