“DIVERSITY DANCE SHOWCASE” MARCH 7, 2013

“Diversity” – a dance showcase with The “Bull Girls” of the Bull N’  Barrel – takes place on Thursday March 7, 2013 at 8 p.m. and highlights the talents of  one of Windsor’s up and coming Choreographers, Nicole Haslam.

“This city needs more dancing, more music, more entertainment,” believes Haslam. “Dance is one of the world’ s greatest forms to express emotion and feeling and we don’t get enough of it on stage in Windsor for the public to experience and I am about to change that!”

Haslam’s show is a brilliant creation of a cast of singers and  over 20 dancers and a variety of dance styles such as: ballet, tap, modern, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, jazz as well as acrobatics.

The dancers and creator of this prestigious show have been rehearsing for the last six months and are anxiously awaiting the premiere in front of their first audience on Thursday March 7^th 2013 at the Bull and Barrel Urban Saloon, 670 Ouellette Avenue in Windsor.  

The lights, costumes, set, and talent on stage will be a jaw dropping experience which everyone should come out and enjoy. All ages are welcome.

“Diversity” is not only going to be in a theatre aspect but also a show with a lounge vibe where you can drink from the bars inside the Bull and Barrel and munch on appetizers and entrees from their menu. You will also soak up their country atmosphere which Haslam has incorporated into the show.

The dancers in the show have been training their entire lives to continue to fulfill their dreams in the dance world. This is a way for their talent to be showcased for many and do what they love best – dance, for their very own community. The hard work and dedication  put into this show by all dancers will certainly be worth it for the audiene.

KIDSPORT ABORIGINAL YOUTH WOLF CAMP MARCH BREAK

KidSport has created a project for Aboriginal youth 7-15 years, which will incorporate the FunZone program into community sport camps in various cities across the province.

Each week long camp will introduce the participants to organized sport and the clubs and leagues available to them in their community. The camps will also focus on injury prevention, healthy and nutritious living and the consequences of tobacco use. (Participants at these camps will be automatically eligible for a KidSport grant for the upcoming season in the sport of their choice.)

WAY OF LIFE FOREVER.  This is a culturally based camp that will teach all participants the importance of physical activity, healthy eating, healthy relationships and treating the body as a sacred lodge.

BOTH PROGRAMS WILL COMPLEMENT ONE ANOTHER TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A REWARDING AND MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE.

CAMP WILL TAKE PLACE MARCH 11^th-MARCH 15^th. Children are to attend THE CAN-AM INDIAN FRIENDSHIP CENTRE at 8:30AM(SHARP) for Transportation to OAKWOOD RECREATION CENTRE.  BREAKFAST, SNACKS and LUNCH are all provided.  Attendance is mandatory to obtain funding for Sporting Activity.

Help Bury Cancer Campaign Starts Feb. 4, 2013

Halton resident to take 1,000,000 steps through Ontario’s winter wind and snow for the Canadian Cancer Society

Beginning Monday, February 4, 2013, Halton resident Mike (LAST NAME WITHHELD), will be pulling a 110 pound heavy sled with the letters “CANCER” on it all while walking across Ontario’s winter wind, snow and freezing rain in an effort to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mike’s grueling trek will see him start in Windsor and make his way to Ottawa taking 1,000,000 steps along the way; more than ten steps each for the 75,700 Canadians who are estimated to die from cancer in 2013. When Mike arrives in Ottawa, he will literally bury “CANCER”.  He has aptly named the walk Help Me Bury Cancer.

The Help Me Bury Cancer walk has been dedicated to Mike’s Mom, who has been battling cancer the past two and a half years, and to all cancer patients and their families.

When asked why he is doing this, Mike says, “I’m doing this because of what I have watched my Mom endure. I am doing this to direct the immense frustration at what has happened to her into something positive. I am doing this for all of the families out there that have had to watch a loved one go through all the many things that those diagnosed with cancer go through.”

Mike’s route begins at the University of Windsor at 7:00 a.m. on February 4^th and will take him through
London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Oshawa, Kingston and will end in Ottawa.

Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of Mike’s efforts can also be made through his website: www.helpmeburycancer.org  To date, he has raised over $8,500.

Marko Simunovic, a surgical oncologist who focuses on helping patients with complex colorectal malignancies, states, “As a prior recipient of CCS research funding, I know how important it is to support these individual fund-raising efforts.”

Simunovic continues, “No matter how much support and love a patient receives, for too many people their journey through cancer is long, difficult, and frightening - and the final result may not be a cure. Mike’s planned journey across the province to me resonates sincerity, struggle, and solidarity - it is my good fortune to have the opportunity to support this project.”
